3D Printing Stocks Short Interest and Jumps in Share Prices

During mid-September, short interest rose 3D printing stocks. Some 3D printing companies saw share prices suddenly drop from earlier 2017 highs. Low interest has followed over the past two weeks.

3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) dropped by 0.2% to 26.89 million shares while 24.6% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover dropped from 16 to 15. During the two-week short interest period, the share price increased about 6.4%. DDD’s 52-week trading range is $12.02 to $23.70. On Tuesday shares closed at $13.20 an increase of 0.7%. The share price dropped 4.1% for the year on September 15, after reaching a high of being up almost 75% in during the middle of May.

Stratasys, Ltd. (NASDAQ:SSYS) saw short interest increase 2.1% in the beginning of September to about 5.81 million shares. This is 11.7% of the company’s float. Days to cover grew from 12 to 15. The company’s share price grew around 6.6% over the last two weeks causing the stock to close at $22.63 on Tuesday a 1% increase. SSYS’s 52-week trading range is $16.37 to $30.88. Shares were up around 34% for the year on September 15, not even hitting half of the 71% gain during the middle of May.

Short interest in The ExOne Co (NASDAQ:XONE) increased by 5.9% to 2.33 million shares about 24.9% of the company’s shares were short. Days to cover rose from 11 to 13. The company’s share price spiked 26.5% during the short interest phase. XONE’s 52-week range is $6.72 to $16.15. On Tuesday, shares closed at $10. up 6.5%. The share price ended up trading flat for the year on September 15, after a gain of 30% during the middle of May.

Short interest in Voxeljet AG (ADR) (NYSE:VJET) dropped 5.6% to 500,846 American depositary shares. Days to cover decreasing from 15 to four. VJET’s stock rose 31.8% during the two-week period closing at $5.45 on Tuesday. VJET’s 52-week range is $2.61 to $6.37. The company was up around 68% for the year on September 15 and is up 11.8% since the beginning of 2017..
