Reports indicate that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS 11.2.6 has increased the battery life of Apple’s mobile devices. The next version of iOS is also expected to have more improvements include giving users the ability to control the performance of their iPhone even if it reduces the battery life.

This comes in the wake of reports indicating that the Cupertino, California-based tech giant is planning on rolling out upgrades to the AirPods headphones by introducing new hardware features. It is expected that Apple will release a new version of the headphones later this year. Additionally apple will also unveil a new model next year which is expected to possess water resistance features.

New wireless chip

This year’s upgrades to the hearables will allow users to summon the digital assistant of Apple, Siri, without having to physically tap the AirPods. All that users will need to do is say ‘Hey Siri.’ In just the same way that Siri is activated on a HomePod or iPhone. The AirPods will come with a new wireless chip that has been designed by Apple for the management of Bluetooth connections. In the first AirPods, the W1 chip was used. Apple launched the W2 chip last year when the latest version of the Apple Watch was unveiled.

According to sources the reason that Apple is designing AirPods that are water-resistant is to ensure that they are able to survive water or rain but this will not include being submerged in water. This is the same case as the last iPhones which can survive splashes. The Apple Watch on the other hand can be submerged in waters of a certain depth.

Last year reports indicated that the division that developed the HomePod speaker is the same one producing AirPods. The AirPods were introduced in 2016 when the iPhone 7 was launched with the aim of getting rid of the wired headphone jack thereby reinforcing a trend that has taken over the smartphone industry. Since they were unveiled the hearables have emerged as one of the best-performing Apple products.

“Wearables were the second-largest contributor to revenue growth after iPhone, which is impressive,” revealed the chief financial officer of Apple, Luca Maestri, earlier this month in an analyst conference call where he added that sales of AirPods had jumped by close to 70% last year.
