Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) now makes and sells meal kits in stores. Having been heavily dependent on 3rd party meal kit brands, Walmart announced that it has now began producing and selling its own branded kits which shall be pre-portioned to serve 2 people.
Walmart developed its recipes at its culinary and innovation center that was opened about 2 years ago hence all its kits shall be made and packaged at their stores on a daily basis.
Currently this is only available on 250 stores however it plans to enroll this in their more than 2,000 stores available.
This is among the latest moves taken by Walmart’s grocery business which is the chain’s main source of revenues. The company has also strengthened its beef certified Angus, cultivated a sweeter variety of cantaloupe that can be sold throughout the year.
Walmart has also developed a better means of tracking the freshness for their fruits and vegetables as they are fetched from farms to its stores.
The company in its strategic re-alignment also seeks to smash off its competitors such as Amazon, Blue Apron Holdings, Meal-Kit purveyor etc. on various aspects including pricing, packaging and also the culinary experience.

Being one of the retail giants, Walmart’s grocery business has been foreseen to affect the sales at the various restaurant chains around if the customers would opt to grab quick and cheaper dinner from the retailer.
The meal push for Walmart may yield quite a lot from it because almost all retail chains have the deli departments however only a sizeable number of shoppers would opt to visit the sections despite a continued supply for the same.
Many supermarkets have continued to sell prepared meals, however for Walmart this was more of a strategic approach that saw it engage third party suppliers until it found out the right approach for the discharge of the program.
In its introductory statements, Walmart said that it was not a secret that other retailers offered the services though the quality levels were quite thrilling and that is why they had to wait until they found out the right strategies.
