Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) has decided to stop its mobile video service go90 as it could not succeed in finding sustained audience-base. The service was launched three years ago with the aim to boost the revenue of the company through targeted advertising and data usage from reputed brands.

The company tried to run it under the canopy of Oath Inc, a subsidiary of Verizon to gain some profit. However, the service failed to generate any response. The company until now has invested around $1.2 billion on go90 service since it was launched in 2015.

Verizon to focus on building digital-first brands

Go90 is an award-winning service and also was awarded Academy Award in 2018 for the animated “Dear Basketball” film by Kobe Bryant. According to the company’s spokeswoman with the creation of Oath, the company has now decided to discontinue go90. The spokeswoman said, “Verizon will focus on building its digital-first brands at scale in sports, finance, news and entertainment for today’s mobile consumers and tomorrow’s 5G applications.” Verizon created Oath in 2017 after the merger of Yahoo with AOL.

As per the news, the representatives of the company have already started informing the content providers about this decision of the company to end both go90 brand as well as its video streaming app. By July 31 both these services will be stopped. The company has decided to return the content and shows to its production partners.
