The MacBook Air has not seen a significant hardware update since 2015, according to Mac Rumors, and it is the only MacBook offering that does not feature one of apples signature retina displays.
The company has previously designed processors in-house for things like image processing, security and handling Touch Bar duties – but it isn’t yet clear what the new ones will be used for, and whether they’ll even make it to the MacBook Air.
Internal upgrades likely to receive an upgrade include processors and graphics, another area that could see improvement is the display. There is also a possibility of some USB-C upgrades and perhaps an overall redesign given the age of the current design.
There are also predictions that Air Pods and the rumored high end over ear headphones are the future of Apple’s artificial intelligence and augmented reality ambitions.
MacBook is highly unlikely to feature a full-fledged redesign, namely because it’s supposed be a cheaper model. What many Air enthusiasts have been asking for is simply the existing laptop updated with Apple’s Retina display and a modern processor.
